The Lady of Gollerus and Other Tales
“… it is a very good thing not to be in any way in dread of the Fairies, for they have then less power over a person … “
The Lady of Gollerus and Other Tales is an engaging, humorous stage show where three scholars of Irish folklore delve into stories about the Little People, the Pooka, the Selkies and the Leprechaun’s lesser known cousin, the Cluricaune. Bit by bit they are absorbed into the magical world they are exploring and the timeless voice of the Irish imagination speaks again.
This play is adapted by Caroline Lynch from the book Fairy Legends and Traditions of the South of Ireland by Thomas Crofton Croker. It is a spirited collection of folktales gathered and published by Croker in 1825. It was re-published six times and translated into German by the Brothers Grimm. Thomas Crofton Croker, the son of a major in the British Army, was born in Cork in 1798.

Audience feedback: “This was a wonderful show made with great spirit, enthusiasm, wit and economy. It made me wish I were five years old again, but even as a grown-up the magic, the thrills and the chills carried strongly across and put a big smile on my face”. – Stan Carey
